The meetings started at 1.30pm with a word of welcome from Mr Tefoit Simon who especially welcomed the new members. Mr. Tefoit went ahead and read the agenda of the day. There was reading of the minutes of the last meetings by Miss Chanceline, matters arising for the report were two assignments one on the advantages and disadvantages of Microsoft Windows Operating System and LINUX operating system. The correction of this assignment was done and the second assignment was on HTML which was equally corrected. Mr Tefoit Simon actually assisted in coordinating the correction of the two assignments perfectly.
Immediately after the corrections of the assignments there were so many questions from members especially from the new members. Mr Chi David had to stand up from his sit to answer most of the questions. He produced a list of all Linux programs on the board and equally caused all members presents to examine EDUBUNTU on the two laptops. Miss Chanceline and Mr Chi drilled members on EDUBUNTU for 45 minutes. One student from P.S.S Mankon Bamenda, Ebenezer Nkwate suggested that LINUX USERS CLUBS should be opened in all Secondary Schools in the North West Province and if possible in the whole of Cameroon he said he will like to head on in his school next academic year. He actually appreciated the LINUX operating system after the 45minutes brainstorming on EDUBUNTU. Miss Chanceline also showed members especially the new members our homepage and the projects that we have in hand. Members were reminded to always visit the homepage to keep themselves informed. Mr Micheal Fotang was highly appreciated for assisting in the updating of the Homepage with Miss Chanceline. Our membership is growing we have 45 members eventhough it fluctuates weekly. Mr Chi David testifies receiving 30 mails every week in his email box from members and suggested that these mails should be sent to lugbamenda@immerda.ch for all members to have access to read them.
Members were asked to create Skypte addresses which will be used in chating with our oveaseas partners next week. It was announced that our oversea partners will like every member of the group to give his/her opinions on the homepage. It was agreed that next week every member will say what he/she will like for the success of the group. We have highlighted the following Higher Institution of Learning for Teaching next academic year a) Bamenda University of Science and Technology (BUST) b) National Cooperative College Bamenda c) National Polytechnic Bamenda (NPB) and d)Government Technical High School Bamenda discussions are on the way with the proprietors of these schools i.e Linux will be taught as one of the operating systems in their computer courses.
Mr Chi David advised members whose computer skills were still very low to wake up because there are many challenging things to be handled ahead. He said he is not frightening any member with Information Technology but that members should be prepared to face some very challenging technology issues in the long run. He said the group will dominate as far as computer technology is concern in Cameroon and Africa.
The meeting ended with a question on the sustainability of the group .i.e. some members suggested that a Membership Registration fee of 2000frs be implemented and that we should produce a membership card or form in order to identify serious members who can sign out equipments like laptops to practice or borrow CD's etc etc. How will the handouts, brochures be produced? these and many more questions concerning the group were raised but there were suspended to be handled next week as no ready answers were provided. The issue of setting up an Internet kiosk which was proposed on the meeting of 30th of June 2007 was still maintained as a very reliable source of sustainability for the group. It was agreed that we will concentrate on practical and HTML for the next meeting.
