LINUX USER GROUP (LUG) BAMENDA, NWP
MINUTES OF THE FORTH MEETING AT OCOSO ON
30TH OF JUNE 2007, TIME: 1.00PM TO 5.00PM
LINUX USER GROUP BAMENDA MEETING OF 30TH OF JUNE 2007 AT OCOSO BAMENDA
The meeting started at 2.00pm with a word of welcome by Mr Chi David . This was followed by self-introduction and the reading of the report of the last meeting by Miss Chanceline. Matter arising from the report were as follows :
a) An email account for the group to be created and this was done already by Mr Michel it was lugbamenda@immerda.ch.
b) A reminder was made about short-term goals, the implementation of which was agreed to begin.
The short -term goals which were:
- Training of members on Linux Operating System and it related applications
- Installations of LINUX on members compputers, and
- the introduction of the Homepage creation was all listed.
It was amazing that effectively the short term goals implementation
Mr Chi David demonstrated on the installation of KNOPPIX LINUX and EDUBUNTU to members . It was discovered that EDUBUNTU took quiet a long time to install. This was closely followed by an introduction to HTML by Mr Maurice, a computer instructor in Government Technical High School Bamenda. He gave a theoretical explanations on how HTML can be used , he explained the importance of HTML IN HOMEPAGE CREATION AND THE INTERNET. This was followed by the presentation of LUG Homepage by Miss Chanceline to members on how to update information on this homepage. Miss Chanceline said it is important for all members to be familiar with homepage updating because it not to be done by her alone. She called on every member to develop interest in homepage design. She made some demonstration on how to use tags and parameters.
The issue of the sustainability of the group was raised and it was concluded that a cyber cafe can be opened somewhere in Bamenda town and LINUX installed on all the computers. This will act as both publicity and income generating activity for the group. According to members this was one of the best option for sustainability.
On other matters members agreed that more theory lectures be provided to cause members to undestand the product they are selling better. It was at this point that Mr Micheal Fotang and Mr Chi were asked to prepare presentation on more theory and history of LINUX and its related application for next meeting on 7th of July 2007, While Mr Maurice and Miss Chanceline should equally be prepared to continue presentation on HTML. Mr Chi David gave the closing remarks and it was agreed that the next meeting will be at OCOSO on saturday 7th of July at 1.00pm prompt. He then read out some job opportunities thatcould be of interest to members.
