SOLIDARITY PROJECT FOR CAMEROON
LINUX USERS GROUP BAMENDA
MEETING 28
The meeting started with an opening prayer by Mr Ncham
Ephesians a new member. There was self introduction
and the report of last meeting was presented.
On matters arising from the last report members
presents re-called the following highlighted projects
for income generation.
-
Call Box setting up in Bamenda town.
-
LTSP Cyber in Bamenda
-
Complete Documentation with printer, photocopy, etc
-
Supply of Computers to some schools and members
assigned to teach.
Members were very happy because they found that Mr
Michel the founder of the group has started responding to their requests. Members said that the
phones and Flashdisk Drives to sell was a very good
beginning for the group and also the promise to
install some computers in Bamenda University of
Science and Technology (BUST) for the group to manage
was another giant step.
Members complain that the phones cannot be used for
call boxes as earlier plan because of the quality of
the phone and that the price 36.000frs was too much
for such a phone in the market. Mr Kamga Augustine
said he actually called Mr Michel by phone to tell him
that the phones cannot cost more that 20,000frs. Other
members who had phones also testify that some people
offered to pay 12,000frs . Members said the price for
the Flash disk drives were normal at 15,000frs.
It was agreed that the group should wait for a
response from Mr Michel concerning the phones. Also
members will like to know how the phones and USB-sticks
business in Limbe or Yaounde is moving.
The HOWTO Linux Users Group document was printed and
given to the Linux Users Group leaders in Bamenda
University of Science and Technology(BUST) which will
guide them to set up their group. Students in BUST
want the group to offer a two weeks computer course
for them at the Centre in OCOSO, but two computers in
the centre are not working fine. The teaching was plan
to start on the 27th of December 2007. The Technical
Coordinators incharge of training were assigned to
make a plan for this short course.
The meeting ended with the singing of the Ubuntu
Solidarity Song.
NB: The Software Freedom Day video editing is
going on members should be prepared to have copies. Mr
Chi David accepted to be responsible for the master
copy which will cost 5,000frs CFA.
