LINUX USER GROUP (LUG) BAMENDA, NWP CAMEROON

The meeting started at 2.00pm late because of rain. There was self introduction and reading of the report of last meeting. On matters arising from the report of last meeting were the following:-

Contribution of 2000frs and above for the SFD amounted to 42.000frs and some members are still to make their contributions, also the letters of appeals for support will be followed up. It was agreed that from Monday 10th of September 2007 to Wednesday 12th of September 2007 all contributions should come in and the follow-up for appeal letters also done. A meeting was agreed to hold on Wednesday 12th of September 2007 for final decisions on SFD celebration to be taken at 4.00pm.

2)The following assignments were distributed to members:-

a) Mr Chi David to see about the issue of posters and handout for the match pass.

b) Miss Chanceline to submit radio quiz/announcement at radio station

c)Mr Tifang, Mr Chi and Miss Chanceline to meet the Divisional Delegates of Basic, Secondary, and MINEFOP to invite them and also appeal for support on Monday 12th of September 2007.

d) Mr Chi and Miss Chanceline to follow-up appeal letters submitted to individuals and some organisations in town. An appeal letter to be handed to the proprietor of Awa and Sons Business Centre, Micracle Informatique, Dr Allo Allo Andrew of Bamenda University of Science and Technology and Mr Paul Michelson of Paul's Computer Institute Bamenda.

e)Members agreed to bring some chairs from their homes or beg more chairs for the sitting. All the ladies members agreed to be responsible for the decoration of the Hall and arrangement.

f) Concerning refreshment, members agreed to make some extra support in the domain of food, drinks and chewables. All the ladies in the group met and decided on what they will bring in addition to the contribution. It was also agreed that some special chewables or food will be reserved for invited guest. Concerning drinks it was agreed that two crates of small bottles of sweet drinks of 24 bottles each will be purchased and the men in the group can support with any other type of drink.

g) Concerning the issue of T-shirts, members agreed that the reply of the mail for support to the organisers of the SFD should be received and reported on the Wednesday meeting.

h) Mr Maurice and Mr Tifang Peter had written a letter to the Divisional Officer for Mezam Central to obtain permission for the match pass and a reply was expected.

The meeting ended with testing of a server and one client with a cross cable. Mr Fotang Micheal promised to complete the networking of computers on Monday 10th of September 2007. FINANCIAL REPORT

It was unanimously agreed that a detail financial report will be published on the homepage immediately after the SFD. This report was agreed to contain the following:-

a) Balance of money during Mr. Michel sent off on the 23rd of June 2007

b) Contributions for HTML course

c) Contributions for the transportation of material from Yaounde to Bamenda.

d) Contribution for the software freedom day celebration and how the money was spent.

This financial report will carry the names of members and what they have contributed.

BAMENDA INFO NEWS

I am call Nkaimbe Eric Ngum born in a village call Oku in Bui Division of the North West Province of Cameroon. I am from a polygamies family of 3 wives to my father who has 18 biological children and 7grand children under his care of unmarried children. I am a HND holder and in the job market . my phone number 77304456 .

Chi David Bamenda, Cameroon I live at Ben and Bros street in Bamenda town,this area is popular called RENDEZ_VOUS quarter. My house is very close to the main road in this quarter. Since I entered this house every morning my brother or myself will find excreta of a cat or dog at the entrance of our door. This has been going on for two months. When I was growing up as a child my parents told me that when a cat or a dog excrete on the entrance of your compound or house it means bad luck will surely come your way.

I am a Christian and we are told in church not to believe in such things but trust God. I told my landlady about this issue and she said she will go to a soothsayer and find out what is happening. I told her not to go that I will trust God. I decided to share what is happening to some family members and they said something very bad will happen to my family or to myself. They mentioned issues likes, thieves will attack you, somebody will die, you may lose your job, you will have an accident etc etc. As if this was not enough,my house is fenced with aluminium zinc, for the past one month we are not sleeping because of thieves who come at night and are struggling to remove some sheets of zincs to sell to small industries who are specialized in making aluminium utensils, they usually melt zinc which is their main mineral to produce their products.

My brother Laban Ndong who is an apprentice electrician decided to connect electricity current from the house to this zinc on the fence, one night the theives came and had a terrible shock they shouted very loud at night I cannot imitate the sound they made when the had this shock. These thieves are constantly passing every night and testing the fence if there is current on it or not, we forgot connecting current to the zinc last night and they came and forcefully removed one sheet and insulted us from outside. We are curently thinking of replacing the zinc with a temporal mat made of bamboo. I have been strongly adviced to leave this house. What advice do you have for me and my family. I really like this house because it is not expensive, with my low monthly income I and my family are managing life there.

Inmates at the Bamenda Central Prison held their guards hostage in the prison premises. The inmates testifies that they have been in prison for too long without any judgement. Some said their cases in court are constantly been adjourned. Ngam Laban Ndong, Bamenda Cameroon

I am Awa Rose lum from Pinyin village found in Santa Sub Division in the Mezam Division of the North West Province, holder of a bachelor degree in linguistics and African languages, i will like to talk on the issue of unemployment , the rate of unemployment among the youth in this side of the country is alarming. many graduates just back from school and are rooming the streets and this has pushed them into doing what is called (scamming) a practice where they deal people through the internet to have money .Cyber-cafes) are full with this scammers. What a calamity

Bih Florence resident at Nacho Street and a native of Bafut. Schools resume all over the National territory of Cameroon on the 6th /09/07 causing a lot of poverty in most homes since parent must send their children back to school.

I am Sayah Frida from Gom in Nwa Sub Division . I am a widow and a mother of two children my first daughter is 15 years old . I like singing gospel music , I came from a peasant family. My favorite dish is (biakou and cong) that is pounded cocoyam and insect called ''cartarpilla'' . What i can say about Bamenda is reopening of schools with the up and downs of parent sending back their children to school with the hard times the parents are facing

Tifang Peter is my name from Batibo Sub Division in Momo Division , I am a father of 3 children, a marketer by profession an activist. The coordinator for The Organisation for Consumer Sovereignty OCOSO. The office is situated at the Food Market Road which major problem is the poor road infrastructure and undesirable hygienic condition.

I am call Ngainku Chanceline a native of Babanki Tungo , from a family of 4 that is two boys and two girls. In my village a woman who is educated and fair in complextion is considered very important especially when a man wants to marry her more things and money is demanded.
