LINUX USER GROUP (LUG) BAMENDA, NWP CAMEROON
MEETING 11
AUGUST 11- 2007, TIME: 1.00PM TO 5.00PM
LINUX USER GROUP BAMENDA MEETING OF 18 AUGUST 2007 AT OCOSO BAMENDA
LINUX USERS GROUP BAMENDA
LINUX USERS GROUP BAMENDA REPORT OF THE MEETING OF 18TH OF AUGUST 2007
The meeting started late at 1.30pm with opening prayer followed by self
introduction and reading of the report of last meeting by Chanceline.
There were so many matters arising from the report. Some of these
issues were:
The opinions and the name of one person constantly appearing on the
reports was not the best and that opinions of other members should also
be considered.
The idea of sending opinions by email to lugbamenda@immerda.ch was
said to be not the best forum for communication for the group because
somebody can delete a mail sent by another person. It was also said
that anybody can go into the email account with the password and write
anything maybe insulting a person or just write nonsense to destabilize
the group. Members said the group must be very careful with mails in
lugbamenda@immerda.ch
Mr Micheal Fotang said chating using skypte on Wednesdays was not
the best since skypte is not installed on most cyber cafe in town. Mr
Fotang said he will creat a forum in yahoo for the group before next
meeting which will be more secure and easy to use.
The issue of membership cards was also raised and questions were
asked who is going to pay for the cost, Mr Chi David promised to
shoulder the expenses for these cards and he promised to produce the
first 10 membership cards and also the membership forms which will be
issued to some members on the SFD ceremony. Mr Chi promise to make
draft copies of the invitations/letters of appeal for SFD.
The plan of action for the SFD was also examine members agreed on the
estimated cost for this event to cost about 150,000frs and the
contribution of 2,000frs or above by each member for this day and the
latest date for contributions to be made was the 30th of August 2007.
Miss Rose Awa Lum was chosen to collect the money and Sayah Frida was
also selected to collect the money for the HTML course and members who
will take the full HTML course gave their names.
Miss Chanceline gave a complete and detail report about the material
from Yaounde and members suggested that the group should not focus too
much on material but on building the members through training and
capacity building. Chanceline also made mention of the amounts of money
that was contributed by some members for the transportation of these
material. These members were a) Mr Ndong Isaac b) Miss Chanceline c) Mr
Chi David d) Mr Fotang Micheal. Other members are still to make their
own contributions toward the transportation of this material. It was
agreed that concerning material the group will follow strictly the
instructions of Mr Michel. Some emails sent by Mr Michel were
circulated for members to read. Mr Maurice Beukam and Mr Micheal Fotang
concluded that Mr Michel is actually afraid because of his bad
experience that he had in Cameroon with material and he will not like
that something happens again like that.
On other matters, Mr Michel called and talked to a few members of
the group during the meeting and Mr Beukam Maurice gave a very brief
lesson on HTML on how to insert color and save a home page. Immediately
after this lesson one member of the group successfully created his
homepage and open it with a browser. Chanceline reported after the
phone call from Mr Michel that he suggested that some other members of
the group should also plan to teach courses in the group on subjects
that they master very well eg Typing etc.
Mr Chi drew a diagram on the blackboard demonstrating how Lug grow
and expand and finally become LOCO TEAMS. He said if the Lug in Bamenda
becomes stable, then the group should plant other groups at divisional
levels, sub -division level and then move to another provinces until
the whole country is covered. This will enable the groups to have
provincial conferences and national confrences. Mr Chi said this is his
dream about the Lug Bamenda.
BELOW WERE THE OPINIONS AND COMMENTS OF SOME MEMBERS OF THE GROUP DURING THE MEETING.

join the Linux group but a little bit scared in the moment because i do

LUG in BAMENDA. This group is really helping me to learn new things for
example,i created my first home page today because of our coming
together and sharing knowledge. It is a good thing to work together.
There is also a lot of fun in the group. The information below is what
I put on my first homepage which is true about my village.
- I was born in Awing village in the North West Province of Cameroon,
our main food is called ''Achu'' it is made up of pounded cocoyam and
served with yellow or black soup, it is eaten together with any cooked
animal skin called ''NGUPNYAM'' presently there is a new concept about
this meal that when you eat ''Achu'' that has slept for two or three
days you become very dull and foolish especially if you are a student
undergoing studies, some parents have testify this to be true. But the
truth is that ''Achu'' that has been kept for three or more days seems
to taste better even the soup. I have attended 11 meetings in the LUG
Bamenda and will receive my permanent membership card on the SFD. I am
very happy to be one of the pioneer members. Bamenda LUG is for me just
to learn to see things in a change and changing for the better world.
As a teacher I have notice some weakness amongst the members and try to
solve it by offering a course on BUILD AND MAINTAIN WEB PAGES WITH
HTML. This will also help the members to have an idea of coding , code,
source code , open source and can be an introduction to Linux O.S
-
I am looking on ways to improve on my computer knowledge and acquire university distance degree. I have attended 8 meetings.
Thanks for all who are supporting the LUG
