LINUX USERS GROUP BAMENDA

MEETING OF THE 11TH OF AUGUST 2007

The meeting started at 1.00pm with a word of welcome Miss Unity Mengwi chaired the meeting. There was the reading of the report of last meeting and matters arising. The issue of members to sent their opinion through an email to lugbamenda@immerda.ch was strongly emphasized. Members were asked to do this as soon as possible to enable our overseas partners to know how active and dynamic the group is doing. Some members talked of not having money to go to the internet to pay and send mails. Maitre Yang a lawyer who is a member of the group said he will provide 1000frs next Saturday for internet fee to members who lack money to go and send their opinions about the group.

 

There was detailed discussion on the plan of activities of the Software Freedom day (SFD) members asked where the group is going to get money to finance this event? The following suggestions were made

1) Members will contribute from 2.000frs and above

2) The group should write invitations and appeal for support in the following place

        a) Computer Schools

b) Businessmen

c)Some Organizations

3) The following estimates were finally made for the SFD event

a) For the match pass

- T-Shirts (20)1000frs = 20,000frs

-Handouts to the public = 5,000frs

- Placards with information written with bold markers = 5,000frs

b) Music/Animation (Hire a discotheque)  = 10,000frs

c) Refreshments (Food and Drinks)         = 100,000frs

  The total amount estimated for this event will cost the group = 150,000frs CFA The latest date for members to make their contributions toward the SFD was agreed to be the 31st of August 2007.

 

Two email from Mr Michel  were distributed to members to read for discussion. This mails were careful read by all members and comments were made. The mail talked about material to be collected in Yaounde and also about the Homepage and HTML. Mr Chi David said Miss Chanceline and Isaac Ndong traveled already to Yaounde to bring the materials.

 

Some members of the group quickly donated some money for the materials to be brought up to Bamenda.  It was agreed that members should be prepared to make their own contributions toward the transportation of this material. It was agreed that when the material will arrive Bamenda members of the group will be informed to come to Amour Mezam Express Agence to welcome Mr Ndong Isaac and Chanceline with the materials.

 

We further agreed members should be prepared to come and assist in the carrying of the material to the office at OCOSO. It was agreed that all memberswill be call when the material will come.

 

We had already sent an appreciation letter to Mr Michel thanking him for the support and promised that the material will be well cared for and that nobody will own or fight for it. it was agree thae the group is just beginning, he talked of being registered as one of the LOCO TEAMS  in the world to promote UBUNTU AND LINUX operating system.

 

There was a class on HTML by Mr Beukam Maurice and all members wrote their first Homepage.The one month course on HTML was officially launched and it started very well. It will continue and end on the SFD with award of certificates to those who will go through the course.

 

It was also annouced that Miss Chanceline and Mr Chi David has made their 10th meeting and will collect their Membership Cards and Fill permanent membership forms on the 15th of September 2007.

It was also understood that some members will be making their 10th meeting on or before the 15th of September 2007 and will be included in the list of permanent membership. Members said let the group make the 15th of September 2007 a great day.
