AFRICA ABONG LINUX
SOLIDARITY: Ubuntu, our Spirit
On 4-12-2007, we had a meeting in Isokolo with the people of limbe, some came from the martin luther king center, a NGO Organisation, some from the Baap System, this is an internet services provider in Limbe, others came from Kumba, mile 4 Limbe and mile one Limbe. 10 people take part.
After a breve introduction, the first part of the meeting was on networking and the second part was on static and dynamic webpage designing.
Local connectivity that is within a Town and out of the Town for example within a town like in Bamenda or Limbe. the goal is that the people of differents communities could have contact without internet (as we know internet is expensive) send mail to other NGO and so on . In fact we should know that there are different communities, some are business communities and other are social communities and they may have differents goals and approaches. the representive of the isp was thinking that, a connection is only worth, if we can bring internet and the representive of the NGO is more important to have connection with other NGOs than to have internet.
The people were reminded that wireless is not new in cameroon but the idea that michel has come with it should be taken seriously e.g like taking away the high price by replacing it with local antennas, infact wireless should give access to people who really want it, share with people and make the community connected.
A Problem of wireless was raised, for example if wireless net work is given free in a cameroon society it would still be a problem to the people because majority of the people do not have computers and if the have some would still not have the wireless card.
It was agreed that we have to educate and make people see reasons why they have to do certain things, like connecting structures and working with the civil society and the Governement.
Part two of the meeting was on Static and Dynamic webpages
Michel said he has taught he people in Bamenda, Yaounde and limbe Static webpage and now he would give lessons on Dynamic webpages on 5-12-2007.The people of Martin Luther king were very interested in the Dynamic webpage and they said they need a Dynamic Database so that people can log in to give the report of what they do ,they need programmers ready to learn on practical things, they need a webpage that the fields would be static but the rest of the page would be Dynamic.
At the end we decide to meet in 2 weeks to begin with the training of Wireless
